"In Carol Snyder's ceramic vessels, landscapes are wellsprings of hope,
utopian perfection and ease. . . .
Snyder's porcelain vessels are reductions of direct observation. She
translates recurring information such as horizon lines, cornstalks, trees and
fence rows into design elements. The results are works that are simple, clean
and elegant.
All of Snyder's work relies on light. The thin white porcelain allows light to
pass through; thus, viewers are keenly aware of the translucence of her
medium.
Adding to the effect, she often embosses or cuts away shapes, enabling even
more light to filter through. A few pieces rely on a thin black line as an
accent.
In her tree-inspired cylindrical pieces, the porcelain changes density from a
thicker base to a thin and fragile lip. The delicate edge resembles the way
light filters through treetop foliage.
In Hay Bales, circular shapes repeat themselves and allude to the
large, round hay bales that dot the Ohio countryside. In Fences, the
linear pattern observed in windbreak fencing wraps around a conical vessel.
Referring to natural harmony and beauty, Snyder's work embraces the rural
environment."
