Keny Galleries is pleased to announce our representation of the gifted Self-Taught artist, Michelangelo Lovelace. The artist has been chronicling Cleveland in paint for over 20 years. His work is held by such fine collections as the Springfield Museum of Art, the Progressive Insurance Corporation, Unicare Support Corporation, Exhibition Management, Inc., and Pentaflax, Inc. Recently, Michel's work was selected by the Springfield Museum of Art for a one-person exhibition. The artist has also received a prestigious grant from The Ohio Arts Council for his paintings.
Jim and I believe that the artist's paintings of his hometown, Cleveland, are of national caliber because of his command of inventive pictorial design, dynamic spatial tension, bold visual clarity, and wry, acerbic wit. His art has authenticity and creativity.
We hope that you will join us to celebrate the introduction of his painting to the Columbus community.

Lovelace's current show at Kelly Randall Gallery in the Tremont neighborhood attunes the eye to the rough textures of the city- the endless profusion of blank brick walls, the omnipresent billboards hawking various brands of liquor, the tangle of overhead wires, the center stripes that zip through streets with a lively visual rhythm.
Lovelace owns these images. When it comes to depicting hardscrabble Cleveland with bitterness, with affection and without allusion, he is simply the best. No one can touch him.
